Last week’s newspaper listed the day of the parade, bicycle rally, color run, livestock sale and Tris Munsick concert incorrectly. Parade day will take place on Saturday, July 27.
The youth rodeo is scheduled for July 20, the ranch rodeo for July 23 and the youth rough stock rodeo for July 25.
Fair week is coming right up, this year to the theme of "Country Freedom". Promising all the familiar contests and attractions, there will be a few small schedule changes to watch out for this year.
Parade Day
This year's fair parade will be held on July 27 at 10 a.m., traveling down Sundance's Main Street and along to Cleveland Street.
Parade marshals will be Joe and Bonnie Carmin. Joe taught vocational agriculture in Moorcroft for 32 years, attending the county and state fairs for more than three decades in a row, while Bonnie was a school coordinator for the COE work experience program and then a business teacher in Moorcroft.
Kid Prints will be hosting a color run fundraiser at 7:30 a.m., while the Crook County Sheriff's Office bike relay will be held on July 27 at 8:30 a.m.
After the parade, this year's Crook County Rodeo Royalty will be crowned at 11 a.m.
The junior livestock sale will follow a slightly different schedule this year, beginning at noon with a BBQ for buyers and the community, followed by the sale itself at 2 p.m.
Live entertainment will take place after the sale.
Entertainment
Entertainment this year includes several rodeos, starting with the Youth Rodeo on July 22 at 10 a.m., followed by drawpot team roping.
The Ranch Rodeo is scheduled for July 25, with the calcutta starting at 6 p.m., and the Youth Rough Stock Rodeo will take place on July 27 at 5:30 p.m.
Fair week kicks off with the ice cream social on July 23 at 1:30 p.m. A free pancake breakfast cooked by county elected officials is scheduled for 7 a.m. on July 26 and a BBQ for 4-H and FFA exhibitors at 5 p.m., followed by a dance at 8 p.m.
Head down to the fairgrounds on July 28 at 7:30 p.m. for a concert by Tris Munsick & the Innocents with special guest Christopher Thomas.
For the kids, activities during fair include Story Time with Miss Tonia on July 26 and 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the shade structure from July 23 to 26. Inflatables will be available from noon until 7 p.m. on the same days. This year, carnival games will also be on offer.
4-H activities will be taking place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the hoop house from July 24 to 26.
The Sundance Rod & Gun Club fishing derby will take place between July 27 and 29, with weigh-ins at 5:30 p.m. each day. Entry is open to anyone under the age of 18, but those over the age of 14 will need their own fishing license.
Competitions
Animal events this fair week will begin with the 4-H dog show on July 14 at 10 a.m.; next up is the horse show on July 21 at 8 a.m.
July 24 brings the goat show at 9 a.m. and the swine show at 5 p.m.
On July 25, the sheep show will take place at 8 a.m., poultry and rabbits at 3 p.m. and guinea pigs and pocket pets at 4:30 p.m.
Finally, July 26 will bring the beef show at 9 a.m.
4-H interview judging will take place at 10 a.m. on July 22, followed by the style revue judging at noon and the FFA static and open class at 1 p.m. A public fashion review will be held at 12:30 p.m. on July 23.
Ahead of Time
A few deadlines will be coming up soon, ahead of the official opening of fair. If you are submitting a 4-H or FFA entry, this must be delivered to the fair office by July 8 at 5 p.m.
The Crook County Rodeo Royalty contest will be taking place in Moorcroft on the same day at 7 p.m., with the banquet to be held at 6 p.m. the next day.
July 8 is also the day that camping reservations for exhibitors open on a first come, first serve basis.
All open class entries are due to the fair office by July 19 at 5 p.m.
