The students from the Alzada School in Alzada, MT have been doing some fundraising to raise money to purchase new playground equipment. The students got to vote on what they wanted to see added and it was decided that they would raise money to purchase a single piece of equipment called Overdrive.
It is like a merry-go-round but instead of sitting/standing on it, the kids will hold on to the handles and hang from it. It can hold up to six kids at a time. The faster the kids run, the faster it spins.
The cost was $4951, not including freight or installation. The students have been selling raffle tickets since the beginning of October for a chance to win a gift basket to be raffled off at the annual school Christmas program.
The prize for the raffle was a 43inch Roku TV donated by Walmart and a great movie basket put together by Esther Watkins with holiday movies, popcorn, candy and drinks. The school program was held Friday. December 15 and the winning raffle ticket was sold by Lenon Thomas and went to Steve Langley.
The eleven students in grades K-7th were able to raise $1818. Everyone is so proud of them for their hard work.
Monday morning, Julie Courtney, the school clerk, received a phone call stating that an anonymous donor wanted to fulfill the school's needs by donating the remaining funds. A check for $3200 was presented to trustee John Courtney and the kids later that same day.
The Alzada School would like to thank Mrs. Watkins for putting together the raffle prize basket, to everyone who purchased tickets from the kids and to our anonymous donor for helping the students achieve their goal.
