Proudly Serving the Hulet and Devils Tower Community
At the request of Commissioner Kelly Dennis – himself acting on behalf of a “concerned citizen” in Hulett – a letter has been sent to the Wyoming Game & Fish Commission to request a new approach to a predator problem in the area.
Dennis told his fellow commissioners that there is currently an issue with lions around Hulett, and the concerned citizen on whose behalf he was raising the issue does not feel that the game warden’s approach of “avoid it and it will go away” is sufficient.
He requested that the county write and submit a letter asking for a more proactive approach. Commissioner Jeanne Whalen suggested that the letter make clear that the specific issue is with predators approaching the municipalities within the county.
With the assistance of County Clerk Melissa Jones, this was completed during the special meeting held on Wednesday, allowing the commissioners to sign and send the letter immediately.
“The Board of Crook County Commissioners have been made aware of problems with predators within the municipalities of Crook County. Predators more than most other species demand a much more nuanced approach to human/wildlife relationships,” states the letter.
“Thus, we are requesting that the Game & Fish working in Crook County take a more aggressive approach to predator management within municipalities.”
