The American Legion Auxiliary Unit #80 of Hulett hosted the Americanism Contest this year. Students Kindergarten through twelfth grade are invited to participate in the contest. This year grades K-2 had patriotic coloring pages. Grades 3-5 wrote poems. The theme was "The Meaning of the Red, White and Blue on Our US Flag". Grades 6-12 were asked to write essays. The Hulett Lions club scholarships were given to Ahnya Moody who received the main scholarship from the Lions club in the amount of $1000. The other three students were awarded scholarship money from a donation the lions club received. Crook County first graders from Hulett, Moorcroft and Sundance gathered at the Crook County School District central office gym on Tues., May 21 for the 19th annual Wyoming Reads celebration in Crook County. The commencement exercises for the Hulett graduating class of 2024 were held last Sunday at the Hulett high school. 16 seniors participated in the ceremony and received their diplomas. Guest speaker was teacher Josh Willams. Valedictorian was Ahnya Ivie- Moody with salutatorian being Kaydence Westover. All gave profound and heartfelt speeches. A new drip-irrigation greenhouse has been built for the FFA program in Hulett. Edsel Redden, an FFA Honorary American Farmer, brought together a group of volunteers to construct the building. On May 16, students gathered with their Vocational Ag instructor and FFA advisor Taylor Starks to plant towers of vegetables. Jim D. Neiman, president/CEO of Neiman Enterprises, was presented with an honorary doctorate from Black Hills State University at the 187th Commencement Ceremony May 4. Additionally, Elizabeth Jordan's photo "Say Cheese" received a First Lady's Award and went to Cheyenne to be displayed in the Governor's residence and Rachel Merwin's "War Horse" received a Congressional Award (placed second out of 25) and also went to Cheyenne to be displayed in the congress building. Rustic romance was the theme of this year's Hulett Junior/Senior prom. The gym was decorated beautifully for the event and students were dressed elegantly. Hulett hosted the NE District Junior High music solo/ensemble festival recently. Students from Arvada/Clearmont, Tongue River, Kaycee, Wright, Twin Spruce, Sage Valley, Moorcroft, Upton, Hulett, Conestoga Elementary (Gillette) and Paintbrush Elementary (Gillette) were involved in approximately 200 performances for vocal, string and instrumental judges. The sixth annual Hulett Red Devil cheerleader chili supper and fundraiser was held last Saturday at the Greater Hulett community Center. Chili was provided by the Ponderosa and the event had a silent and a live auction. Both auctions had wonderful donations from local and area businesses. Strata Energy, Inc. has issued its annual invitation to Crook County high school graduates to apply for Strata’s Community Energy and Opportunity scholarships. Strata scholarships are available to students graduating from a Crook County high school or Crook County accredited home-school program.
