The University of Wyoming Collegiate Meat Judging team wrapped up a successful spring season with a first-place finish at Iowa State University Saturday, March 4. Once again, the students of Crook County have outdone the state average with a graduation rate for the 2021-2022 school year of 90.6%. This places Crook County School District among the top 15 in the state. Overall, graduation rates in Wyoming have been statistically strong over the last decade, staying above 81% since 2014 according to the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE). Crook County Sheriff Office Sgt Dan Bush and K-9 Condor took a training opportunity last week at the request of Chief Motley with the Hulett Police Department to conduct a search for possible narcotics in the Hulett school and parking lot. Black Hills State University released the Dean’s List for the fall 2022 semester. A total of 687 students maintained a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher while taking at least 12 credit hours. National Education Week was Nov. 13 through 19. During this time the American Legion Auxiliary donates a case of apples to the teachers and employees at the Hulett school. Due the inclement weather that week, the Auxiliary did not accomplish the task until the following Monday, Nov. 21. Better late than never!...
Hulett School Library will host a Scholastic Book Fair from Mon., Nov. 7 to Thurs., Nov. 10. Funds raised will help purchase books for the school library and classroom libraries. Families, faculty and the community, are invited to attend this fun reading event that helps inspire children to become lifelong readers. Students from the 4th and 7th grades of the Hulett School, taught by Anna Backen and Josh Willems respectively, enjoyed visiting the Vore Buffalo Jump on October 5. These students study Wyoming History, and the Vore Buffalo Jump allows students to step into the past and really imagine what life would have been like during the period in our history when Native Americans trapped large numbers of bison in the Vore site sinkhole. According to this year’s accountability scores, all of Crook County’s schools are at least partially meeting the state’s expectations and have not seen a significant drop in performance scores, despite the disruptions caused by COVID-19. Accountability measures have not been determined since the 2018-19 school year, a two-year pause caused by the pandemic. Hulett fourth graders have earnestly been studying indigenous tribes of Wyoming as part of Wyoming History. An element of the indigenous tribe unit is how these people utilized the buffalo in many aspects of their daily life. The class finished a read aloud of Naya Nuki, the story of a Shoshone girl who was captured with Sacajawea but escaped and tried to survive independently on the way back to her people. The Devils Tower FFA is making plans to get elementary students involved in the chapter by growing herbs. Each class Kindergarten through fifth grade, has been assigned a herb to grow in their classroom. Herbs are easily grown, low maintenance plants that are perfect for growing in classrooms year-round. The Crook County School District held their annual Bus Driver's Clinic in Hulett Aug. 16, with all route bus drivers and substitute drivers attending. All bus drivers are required by the State of Wyoming to complete six hours of training yearly. This year, the clinic focused on defensive driving. Campbell County provided the training.
