Fair week wrapped up for another year with a finale of smiles and cheering. A busy parade made its way along Main Street in Sundance on Saturday morning with participants ranging from volunteer emergency personnel to political candidates, local business and 4-H clubs. Nobody likes to cut down a mature, old tree, but the Town of Hulett had to take down one in their town park. A tree that was struck by lightning last summer started showing signs of deterioration and dying. The Town was proactive and decided to take down the tree before a limb fell off and hurt someone or damaged other property. Part of the tree is still in the park and the company that cut it down carved a bench to try to preserve some and make it useful....
Crook County Natural Resource District (CCNRD) is once again bringing a trailer to town to collect the electronics that are clogging up your storage space. The district will this year be hosting the event in the parking lot of its office in Sundance and will have signs posted to designate entry and exit points in order to keep the traffic flowing properly. GILLETTE — Three family members of popular gospel quartet The Nelons are among seven who died when a private plane crashed Friday afternoon in Campbell County north of Gillette. The Hulett Airport Board held their annual fly-in last Saturday and what a beautiful day for it. No wind and clear skies was a perfect invitation for local aviators. The morning breakfast was attended by 75 people. Locals and pilots came from all over the area, including Belle Fourche, Buffalo, WY, Casper, Sheridan and Rapid City. Another fantastic year of swimming lessons is in the books. There were some challenges with rescheduling due to remodels and an intimidatingly cool pool after it was refilled; however, our youth persisted and learned some critical new skills. Devils Tower on pace to have busiest year ever GILLETTE (WNE) — Devils Tower has been on a record-setting pace so far in 2024. Through June, 192,682 people visited the national monument in Crook County. That’s up more than 5000 visitors from 2021, which is the busiest year on record for Devils Tower. Family and friends celebrated the anniversaries of three Knapp couples last Saturday at the GHCC. Jerry and Marilyn Knapp were celebrated for 70 years, while their sons and wives, Kent and Jeanine and Jerry D. and Wendy celebrated 50. Peggy McAmis is the Hulett library patron highlight for June. She comes in almost weekly to check out books. Sometimes she brings her husband, David, with her. Both are pretty avid readers. She is a member of the Book Discussion Group and is also a participant of the five-mile walking exercise class on Monday and Thursday nights.
