  • Commission focuses on EMS sustainability

    Sarah Pridgeon|Jun 16, 2022

Calling 911 doesn’t guarantee that an ambulance will be sent to your aid. At least, it’s not a guarantee in Wyoming, because emergency medical services are not considered essential. This is something that could change in the near future, however, and the Crook County Commissioners are keen to start looking for ways to support local ambulance services now, rather than wait for the state to make its own changes. At the request of Commissioner Jeanne Whalen, representatives from each of the county’s ambulance services were in attendance at last...

Study finds Teton Co. courthouse can’t withstand earthquake JACKSON (WNE) — A recent study determined that the Teton County courthouse is not earthquake sound and no amount of renovations can save it. The building, built in 1968, will need to be completely torn down. The unsafe building puts the Teton County Sheriff’s office, located on the bottom floor, at risk. That office also is home to the county’s 911 emergency dispatch center. The issue of remodeling the courthouse has been in conversation before, but thus far hasn’t gained traction....

  • Improving genetics: Embryo transfers allow more selective cattle breeding

Seth Taylor, Buffalo Bulletin Via Wyoming News Exchange|Jun 9, 2022

BUFFALO - Michael Rea focused the lens of his microscope, scanning each section of a small dish, sifting through specks and smudges, looking for something. Behind him, Brent and Stephanie Painter monitored his progress on a small, black tablet. The garage was quiet, other than the sound of the wind. Rea shifted in his seat. "It's not looking good," he said to the Painters. They were looking for embryos, and it wasn't going well. The Painters had hired Rea to extract as many embryos as he could...

  • Everything Enchiladas!

    Vicki Hayman, UW Extension|Jun 9, 2022

The traditional Mexican dish of enchiladas has a unique flavor and long history. The definition of the enchilada is a rolled tortilla with a filling, usually with meat and served with a chili sauce. In English, the word enchilada means “in chili.” Extensive research suggests that enchiladas not only date back to Mayans but also originated from Mayan people. A staple food of the Mayan people was corn tortillas. Some evidence shows that the first enchiladas were made with these corn tortillas and had fish rolled in them. Spanish conquistadors doc...

But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with – of all things – her mind. True chemistry results.
