The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) are currently tracking an unusually high number of measles outbreaks across the United States, with 29 states currently known to have been affected. So far this year, a total of 13 outbreaks have been reported, which is defined as three or more related cases. Of the total 227 cases, 155 are associated with outbreaks. Another family in need of support due to illness expenses was helped last weekend through the annual Ride a Horse Feed a Cowboy. This year, Katie Moody and family was the beneficiary. Katie was diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time last year. The Moodys have been a big supporter of the local community and never hesitate to give a helping hand. Devils Tower National Monument opened back up just a couple of days after a temporary closure caused by hail damage. The storm on the evening of August 19 brought down numerous trees, damaged buildings, campers and vehicles and made many of the trails impassable. Significant damage was also reported at the KOA campground next to the Tower and surrounding businesses. By August 21, all trails were back open and visitors were once again welcome to enjoy the nation's first national monument....
Our patron highlight for the month of August is Laura Moose. Besides being an avid reader, Laura participates in book discussion. She is also a member of the Friends of the Library and enjoys coming to our craft classes. We were also lucky enough to have Laura help with the Summer Program this year. Florida man gets 15 years for fatal crash GILLETTE (WNE) — A truck driver from Florida who was found with beer cans in his cab after crashing into and killing another driver north of Gillette has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison. Nicholas L. Alvarez, 39, on Aug. 15 received an imposed 8.5- to 15-year sentence for aggravated vehicular homicide, according to court documents. Alvarez pleaded guilty to the charge in May. The Devils Tower KOA Campground played host to the 21st annual Devils Tower Car Show on Saturday, sponsored by Moorcroft's Texas Trail Cruisers Car Club. Hard to believe, but the summer reading at the library came and went. The kids had a lot of fun this year doing fun crafts and playing games. Locals may have noticed a beautiful bench that has been placed in the park in front of the Lions Club shelter. This bench is a memorial for Veronica "Roni" Johnson. Family members and memorial money have made this beautiful bench possible for locals to remember Roni who always use to sit around town drinking her Pepsi, especially in the park. She would have loved it. She passed away August 19, 2023....
f you haven't noticed it yet, there's a new beautiful flag in the Pioneer Park in Hulett. This flag replaced one that hadn't been there for many years. Funds came from the Hulett women's club with the help of the American Legion and other volunteers. The flag is situated in the front of the park and is lit at night....

This weekend will be the annual Ride a Horse Feed a Cowboy, which will be benefiting Katie Moody this year. The weekend will begin with the goat roping on Friday night at the Hulett recreation grounds at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the fun will begin at 3 p.m. with the bronc and bareback riding rodeo. Admission is $15 for this event. Following the rodeo, there will be a cowboy taco supper followed by auctions. The night will end with DJ Andy Bears playing all the musical hits....
