The Hulett roping club held their annual rodeo last weekend at the Hulett recreation grounds. This rodeo, the 77th annual turned out to be a great weekend with a great turnout of spectators. The rodeo weekend was filled with excitement and fun, as the audience watched skilled cowboys and cowgirls compete in various events such as bull riding, bronc riding and roping. Bonnie Klein reports a lot of recent activity at the senior garden in Hulett. The garden is located behind the Senior Center on land Summit National Bank has allowed the seniors to use. Dave and Justin from Tower Valley Station and Tower Country Equipment Rental recently provided equipment and their time to help with relocating manure donated by a local rancher for composting into good gardening soil. The Crook County Farm Bureau Federation promoted a program called Ag Books for Kids in the Crook County elementary school classrooms. This year's book was "Seed, Soil and Sun" by Cris Peterson. The purpose: to instill the knowledge that many of our daily necessities come from agriculture! American agriculture provides us with the food we eat, the clothes we wear and so much more. The kickoff for the Hulett Rodeo weekend was the annual parade which is sponsored by the Hulett rec. board and the Hulett Chamber of Commerce. Over 34 entries were entered this year, everything from rodeo queens to the Hulett marching band to floats. Following the parade, the first day of the Hulett rodeo was held. Well over 100 kids participated in this year's annual WSG Youth Field Day. Open to kids aged 0-18, the day was enjoyable with a beautiful day of fishing and attending interactive displays. This event is a free outdoor education experience. Displays this year included taxidermy, archery, a demonstration from the Hulett ambulance, panning for gold and bee keeping. The Wyoming Department of Transportation has closed access to Wyoming State Highway 22/ Teton Pass due to a landslide at milepost 12.8 and a mudslide at milepost 15. Commuters have been asked to detour around using US 26 through Swan Valley and then into the Snake River Canyon. WYDOT crews are currently evaluating the stability of the area and investigating adjacent areas for potential safety hazards. Sondra Lee Floyd (Giacometto, Courtney) 84, of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, passed into God's hands on May 29, 2024. She was born on November 16, 1939, in Spearfish, South Dakota, to Gifford and Leone Floyd. We likely won’t be seeing much about the revised management plan for the Black Hills National Forest this year, according to Dru Palmer, consultant to the county commissioners. She said last week that the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) has pushed back publication of the notice of intent to begin developing the plan to fall or early winter. The Crook County Commissioners have signed up as a cooperating agency as the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) decides how to manage old growth forests, but will be making their thoughts clear on how the process has gone so far. Swimming lessons are coming back this year at the Belle Fourche Rec Center. The Town of Hulett and Hulett Rec Board will be providing transportation to and from the lessons, which will be held from July 8 to 18. Last year, 34 students took advantage of the opportunity. This year’s price has increased from $28 to $48.38 per student for nonmembers, for which each child will receive two weeks of instruction from certified swim instructors, progressing from beginner to lifeguard levels. New mental health program off to a fast start GILLETTE (WNE) — A new program to help Gillette residents with their mental health has gotten off to a fast start. Earlier this spring, the Northeast Wyoming Community Health Foundation launched Hope Source to help people pay for therapy and counseling costs.
