The eighth annual Hulett Youth Field Day presented by the Wyoming Sportsman group, and many other sponsors, was held last Saturday at the ranch of Chip Neiman. The yearly event is an outdoor educational experience for youth 0-17. Events included a fishing derby, which Paxton Pravecek won again this year, archery, wildlife demonstrations, panning for gold, the art of bee keeping and making honey, ice cream making and a visit from Black Hill Raptor Center, who brought some very special guests....
The month of June holds spiritual and cultural significance for the tribes closely associated with Mato Tipila – Bear Lodge (Devils Tower). The 1995 Devils Tower National Monument Climbing Management Plan established a voluntary closure for all climbing routes on the Tower out of respect for the cultural activities of Native Americans. The voluntary climbing closure has been implemented each June since 1996. As a result, the average number of climbers that choose not to climb during June has led to an 85% reduction. The National Park Service a...

There will be regular rodeo events plus lots of things for the kids to do. There will be boot rac...

It was a gorgeous day to enjoy the natural history of Devils Tower with a hike around it. After their hike, students met at the picnic area, ate lunch and were then entertained in the amphitheater. Area coordinator Bonnie Stahla, Crook County Library Director, explained how Wyoming Reads came to be and how the Sue...
Bond revoked for Dell Range shooting defendant CHEYENNE (WNE) — Tirso Munguia, 19, one of the three defendants charged in connection with the shooting death of Angelina Harrison, 16, had his bond revoked last week after violating the terms of his bond by allegedly making contact with Harrison’s family. With warmer weather finally arriving, the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) wants residents to enjoy favorite activities while also avoiding certain illnesses often linked with summer fun. “If not done safely, many warm weather activities can sometimes cause unpleasant stomach-related symptoms and occasionally serious illness,” says Courtney Tillman, epidemiologist with WDH. Diseases such as cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis and shigellosis are diarrheal illnesses caused by swallowing water from pools or outdoor sources contaminated with ani...
Wyoming will spend more than $4 million to kill coyotes, wolves, ravens, skunks and other “nuisance animals” in 2023-’24 — more than any previous fiscal year. Federal trapper Steve Moyles helped make the case for one portion of the expenditures May 18 in a presentation to the Wyoming Animal Damage Management Board. The common raven, he told board members, is a “nasty bird” that causes horrific injuries to young, defenseless cattle on calving grounds. “They peck navals, they peck eyes, they actually peck holes in joints of calves,” said...
The owner of Elk Mountain Ranch has dropped the last remaining claim in a civil corner-crossing trespass suit — an allegation that a Missouri hunter stepped on his property well away from the contested corners. In papers filed in U.S. District Court on June 1, an attorney for Iron Bar Holdings and Fred Eshelman told U.S. Chief District Judge Scott Skavdahl that the ranch owner is withdrawing the trespass claim associated with a digital marker known as Waypoint 6. That would preclude the need for a trial later this month. Eshelman had sued four...
The state of Wyoming is going to court again over grizzly bears, this time because federal wildlife officials missed a deadline to decide whether they would pursue removing Endangered Species Act protections. State officials announced their petition in a cheeky press release this week, accusing the U.S. Department of Interior of "hibernating" on deadline. "The petition seeks to remedy the DOI's inaction," the statement from Gov. Mark Gordon's office said. Under federal policy, the U.S. Fish and...
