When a local taxpayer brought a protest before the Crook County Board of Equalization last year, board members recognized that the county assessor had properly followed the rules. Nonetheless, they reversed the valuation and an appeal was filed with the State Board of Equalization. Norovirus is doing the rounds in Wyoming, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH). An increase in outbreaks began in mid-December and wastewater testing has confirmed there are elevated levels of circulating norovirus. The University of Wyoming Extension has scheduled 16 pesticide safety education programs for private applicators across the state January through March. Currently, programs are scheduled in Crook, Goshen, Johnson, Laramie, Niobrara, Park, Platte, Sheridan and Weston counties. The ALZ community action support network will be holding informational classes and workshops at the Hulett library beginning Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. The first class in the series will be a community forum to discuss personal experience with Alzheimer’s and how the association and the community can help. SHERIDAN — A bill to offer broadscale property tax relief could have adverse impacts on local governments and tax authorities, according to various organizations. House Bill 169 — Homeowner tax exemption — 2025 and 2026 — would exempt 50% of a home’s first $1 million in fair market value from property tax assessment.
